Altötting Advent

The Best Time in the Heart of Bavaria

Hundreds of twinkling lights, contemplative music from the churches, the scent of Christmas on Kapellplatz: Advent is a very special time of year in Altötting. Every year during Advent, Altötting’s Kapellplatz is transformed into a pre-Christmas village, and the Altötting Christmas Market opens its doors. This year, the Grand Nativity Scene Exhibition—which takes place only once every five years—will once again be held in the Congregation Hall.

Advent in Altötting is perfect for a group outing. A visit to the Altötting Christmas market can easily be combined with an Advent concert or a guided tour of the town.

Altötting Christmas Market

Every year during Advent, the Altötting Christmas Market creates a very special atmosphere in the center of this pilgrimage town. The beautifully decorated stalls, the string lights and candles, and the scent of mulled wine, hot chestnuts, and cinnamon stars make every visitor’s heart beat faster.

The Altötting Christmas Market also owes its excellent reputation to the carefully selected offerings from vendors and market stallholders. From arts and crafts stalls, Christmas gifts, and craft supplies to culinary delights, visitors will find a wide and sophisticated selection.
