Altötting Christmas Market

For years, Advent in Altötting has captivated countless visitors. Its secret? There’s so much to discover!

The market is set up around the Chapel of Grace and extends across the spacious Kapellplatz, surrounded by stately buildings, Altötting’s churches, and the Baroque structures that form the outer framework.

The Altötting Christmas Market looks forward to welcoming visitors from November 27 through December 20, 2026!

At the festive opening on November 27 at 5:30 p.m. in front of the resplendent Altötting Town Hall, we’ll send off St. Nicholas with his host of angels, who will then make children’s eyes light up every day at 5:00 p.m.

Hours:

Monday through Friday: 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Admission is free!

Kapellplatz: An Advent Paradise

Every year during Advent, the Altötting Christmas Market creates a very special atmosphere in the center of this pilgrimage town.

The beautifully decorated stalls, the string lights and candles, and the scent of mulled wine, hot chestnuts, and cinnamon stars make every visitor’s heart beat faster.

As an added highlight, the Marienbrunnen fountain, with its pyramid-shaped glass enclosure, shines brightly in the center of the Christmas market.

The Altötting Christmas Market also owes its excellent reputation to the carefully selected assortment offered by the vendors and stallholders.

The beautifully decorated market stalls feature all kinds of handicrafts, from nativity scene figures and lovingly embroidered “Fatschenkinderln” to candles and Christmas tree ornaments, as well as Christmas gifts and craft supplies.

For the cold season, warm hats and gloves as well as woolen clothing are available.

Household items such as hand-woven baskets and rustic kitchen utensils are also featured at the Christmas market.

St. Nicholas Pilgrimage

The now-traditional pilgrimage of the St. Nicholases to Our Lady of Grace will once again take place on the last Saturday of the Christmas market, December 19.

The pontifical Mass will be held in St. Anne’s Basilica. Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Josef Graf of Regensburg will preside. The procession of St. Nicholas figures through the market to conclude the event is sure to bring great joy to children and adults alike.
